TEAM TEACHING STAGE PEDAGOGICAL EVENT Nº2

A REAL FACT!

THIS IS REALLY TRUE!

REFLECTION Nº1 (OBSERVATION STAGE)

I realized that knowing the students is an essential part to know how to face situations, also to give a complete teaching work. I liked so much this part of this teaching practise. Inmediately I made relationships with some kids so this gave me a little self confidence before starting my teaching stage, but also I noticed those students who I knew were going to be difficult to deal with, so I paid attention on them trying to look for strategies to reach their minds, but I knew it was going to be so hard.

These meaningful pictures!

These are some pictures about posterboards from the PAY ATTENTION ZONE, that I made to introduce instructions inside the classroom, it was an activity that I made before starting the class, it was created on purpose to let the students know them.

CLASSROOM CONTROL ISSUES

When I started my teaching practice I didn’t know how hard it was going to be, I was observing them during two weeks but I did not feel prepared to face their wrong behaviors. On one simple sight I realized the “conflictive students”, and I was really afraid of them. Of course I have experienced some of the shown situations in the picture, several times there were students doing something else or talking to another classmate and as a consequence I had to stop the class just for telling them they were wasting their learning classmates’ time and at the same time they were interrupting my class. Despite of the fact that they are young people, they are between sixteen and eighteen years old, about 8 students were always making noise, screaming or laughing loudly behaving like children, I told them it every time I saw these kinds of conducts and they seemed to feel very embarrassing, so that was one of my first ideas to face these kinds of situations, it sounds so simple but it did work. I clearly remember one awful day to me; that day I had to deal with the worst and the most difficult situation in my teaching practice. Every student knows that Tuesdays we work with the student book adding complementary activities, but a considerable number of students did not bring their books. My guide teacher suggested me writing “anotaciones” for all these students, I had to know who had the books and who hadn’t. A boy did not want to tell me his name, he was really angry with me because the note in his student life sheet (hoja de vida) was going to be the first negative one. He started to scream me that it was unfair, I did not how to react because his voice was getting a little bit aggressive, but I explained him that they knew we worked with the English books. He stayed after the class had finished because he wanted to know what I was going to write, he still was reclaiming with angry and I asked him getting quiet. I decided to talk with him, I wanted to hear him because his reaction was uncommon, his behavior, at least in English class was going pretty well. We had agreeable conversation and he told me some problems he had, so I took it in count. We finished in good terms. Since that day I focused on try to get information from the students’ speech, I paid attention on those problematic ones and I called every one, one by one, after each class to have a conversation with them. I proposed them goals and I tried to motivate these aims with extra marks or positive notes (anotaciones positivas). I succeed the most of the time and I think this is a huge idea to attach those students who are always interrupting the classes, as a teacher you have to have a close relation as you can through a dialogue every time you can do it overall with the students you notice are having problems or you see they are behaving unusually they perform.

FIRST and SECOND POST OBSERVATION FEEDBACK

FIRST: I think that every teacher who is living his or her first experiences and steps teaching is nervous, afraid and anxious, it was my case. I really wanted to do it, give the first step; I was hard working since I started this new and last way so I wanted to show it.
At the begging of my classes I thought it would be the hardest and painful thing that I would have to face because the teacher guide asked me to speak everything in English, it wasn’t difficult to me, the problem was and still is the fact they don’t know English, they have a vague knowledge in this area so I had been prepared power point presentations to do my classes for a better students’ comprehension but sadly that day it didn’t work. My guide teacher was very worried about it and she did her best to solve this problem but at last it was in vane. I felt frustrated but I had a plan B and I focused on tried to do my best. It wasn’t difficult, my students were participating through the class more than usually they do it, activities worked, they paid attention seriously, but sometimes a few students did another thing that distracted others. Some of them were asking me what the supervisor was telling me about the class. I felt they were a little bit nervous too because they were concerned about me owing to the fact that we have a close and pretty good relation that has been increased this long period of time although it takes me a lot, every class is a number of situations that give me new experiences, sometimes I don’t know how to face some difficult circumstances but you must to know and that is the big challenge. In short, my first supervised wasn’t not so bad, it could be better but I know every mistake is a learning for the future.

SECOND: I have finished this new and last step, I have learnt a lot. Besides I have to recognize there are a lot of things to improve as a teacher. I need how to know more strategies to manage a difficult group of students, I got it with them but I felt frustrated many times, I don't want to feel that again I have to work hard on that but I know I can. In this supervision I felt more comfortable than the first, the data show worked alright, despite of the fact that some students were saying things to disrupt the class. I have a very emotional feeling now contrasting with my happiness because I ended my teaching practise, I feel a little bit sad because I left a group of students that need attention.

PARA PENSAR!

“HAY PERSONAS MUY INSTRUÍDAS, QUE PUEDEN SER POCO EDUCADAS, PORQUE NO UTILIZARON SUS VALORES DE VIDA.
HAY PERSONAS QUE PUEDEN SER POCO INSTRUÍDAS, PERO BIEN EDUCADAS, PORQUE ELLOS UTILIZAN SUS VALORES DE VIDA.
LO IDEAL DE LA EDUCACIÓN, ES QUE HAYA PERSONAS BIEN EDUCADAS Y BIEN INSTRUÍDAS COMO FRUTO DE SUS VALORES DE VIDA”.

2. Profesor en Práctica: Claudia Santander Guzmán
3. Fecha: 24 de mayo 2010

5. Hora (inicio y término): 15:30 a 17:25 hrs.

II. Comentarios Generales:
